Overwatch 2 is the long-awaited sequel to its predecessor, Overwatch, which was developed by Blizzard Entertainment and Iron Galaxy and released in 2016. The game itself is based on the iconic five vs five competitive layout, a staple for competitive games made famous in shooters and MOBAs like Counter Strike and League of Legends. What set Overwatch apart from shooters like Counter Strike (and what inspired games such as Valorant) was that you played as characters, sparking charisma and charm to the game. Consequently each character has specific abilities and weapons unique to them, making it important that you know what each one does, and which is best to use.

Overwatch 2 Patch Notes FAQ

Got some questions about the patch notes? Or about Overwatch 2 in general? We’ll answer them below!

What are Patch Notes?

Most live-service games, and sometimes single-player,  receive regular patches throughout the year. Patch notes can sometimes be scheduled, or can be part of an emergency maintenance period.

If a game has a bunch of bugs at the time, developers will publish the patch notes to let players know what exactly has been fixed. As well as bug fixes, patch notes usually include information about character/weapon nerfs and buffs, especially in live-service games like Overwatch 2.

Additionally, patch notes are also published when there is new content in a game. This could be a new event, new characters/weapons, or new game modes!

How Often do we Update our Overwatch 2 Patch Notes?

We aim to update this guide as soon as the Overwatch 2 developers publish the latest patch notes – especially if the fixes, nerfs, and buffs are notable! Patch notes can either be scheduled, or can drop randomly, so make sure to bookmark this page to keep up to date with the game.
